How to Create and Upload a Voki to your Blog

  1. Go to http://www.voki.com/ and click on “Create”.
  2. Create your voki. The dice gives you a random character, or you can create your own. The easiest way to “Give it a Voice” is by using the “Text to Speech” option.
  3. Click on “Publish”, enter a title for your voki, then click “Save”.
  4. You do NOT need to sign up. When the pop-up appears asking you to, click “No Thanks”, and then close the next pop-up also.
  5. Copy the embed code that you need by clicking on the blue “Copy” button.
  6. Log in to your blog’s dashboard, and go to Appearance -> Widgets.
  7. Add a Text widget by dragging it from the “Available Widgets” area on the left into the “Sidebar” area on the right.

NOTE: It seems to be easier to do this process in some blog “Themes”. If you are having difficulty, try changing the theme of your blog to Blak Magic.

  1. Enter a title for the widget (eg: “Welcome to my blog”), and then paste the embed code into the main window of the widget. Click on “Save” then “Close”.
  2. Visit your site to check out how it looks. You can change which widgets appear in which sidebar, and which ones are higher up than others, by going back into your dashboard.

How to create a link

Note: This will create a link within a blog post. There is a different process if you want to add a link to the “Links” in your sidebar.

  1. Go to the blog that you want to link to, and copy the URL (right at the top of the screen)
  2. Go to the dashboard of your blog (not Blog Central).
  3. Click on  Posts à Add New.
  4. Enter a title for your post.
  5. Write the main part of the blog post.
  6. Highlight the text that refers to the blog you want to link to.
  7. Click on the “Insert/edit link” icon  (above the text box) and paste in the URL you copied earlier. (Note: the URL must start with “http://” for it to work.)
  8. Click on “Add link”.
  9. Click on “Publish” to publish the blog post. (Visit your blog to check that the link works!)

How to upload an image or document

  1. Go to the dashboard of your blog (not Blog Central).
  2. Click on  Posts -> Add New.
  3. Enter a title, and write your blog post.
  4. Ensure the cursor is in the blog post, where you would like the image to be placed.
  5. Click on the “Add Media” icon       (next to Upload/Insert)
  6. Click “Select Files” and find the image that you would like to upload.
  7. Add a title etc. for your image, choose an alignment and size, and click “Insert into Post”.
  8. Click on “Publish” to publish the blog post. (Visit your blog to see what it looks like!)

This process works for uploading other files such as documents, powerpoints etc.

Where is the link to my blog?

Year 7s from this year – the links to your blogs have now been shifted to the year 8 pages. Go to the page for your year 8 class, and all the links should be there.

Alternatively, if you just log in to global2, you can get to your blog by hovering over the “My Sites” link at the top left of the screen.
